BBC North Korea Documentary 2016 : North Korea - Korean Puk Joseon, 북조선 (Hangul), 北 朝鮮 (Hanja) - officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) (Korean Joseon Minjujuŭi Inmin Konghwaguk, 조선 민주주의 인민 공화국 (Hangul), 朝鮮民主主義 人民 共和國 (Hanja)), is a state that covers the northern part of the Korean peninsula in east Asia. The capital city is Pyongyang. It borders China (1416 km of common borders) north of Russia and northeast (19 km border) and the Republic of Korea to the south (238 km border). This last southern border is lined either side of 2 km wide by the demilitarized zone (DMZ), which is actually very heavily militarized because supervised overall by more than a million soldats1. Led by the only Communist dynasty of Histoire2,3, North Korea is a one-party state with a "united front" led by the Workers' Party of Korea (KWP). The official ideology of the country is the Juche doctrine based on self-reliance, developed by Kim Il-sung, the founder of the regime. After the latter's death in 1994, Kim Jong Il, his son, succeeded him in the state of the head but not as President of the Republic, this function being remained "forever" attached to the person of Kim Il-sung4,5. After the collapse of the USSR and a series of natural disasters, North Korea suffered a famine making 900,000 to 2 million morts6,7. Kim Jong Il then adopts the Songun policy or "military first" to strengthen the country and the government. This scheme, still called today Stalinist Communist, although all references to communism were removed from its constitution in 20098, operates on a logic totalitaire9,10,11,12,13,14,15; it mobilizes a personality cult around Kim Il-sung and has one of the lowest levels of human rights in the world.16. The regime is also dynastic: after the death of Kim Jong-il in 2011, his youngest son Kim Jong-un succède17 him. North Korea is the most militarized country in the world as regards the proportion of the population engaged in armées18,19 strength with a total of 9,495,000 men active, reserve and paramilitary. (see Article # hyphenated names of political and administrative entities). It would therefore be legitimate to write "Korea-du-Nord" (Webster's own names 2006). The country is located in East Asia, north of the Korean peninsula, which occupies about 55% of terres22. Covering an area of 120,538 km2, it is bordered on the north by China (border of 1416 km), northeast by Russia (19 km border) and to the south by South Korea (238 border km). Its maritime boundaries are marked on the east by the Sea of Japan, called the "East Sea" by the Coréens23 and west by the Yellow Sea, marginal sea of the East China Sea. The largest city is Pyongyang, the capital; Other major cities are Chongjin, Wonsan Nampo, Kaesong and Hamhung. The main rivers are the Amnok (Yalu named in Chinese), and 790 km along the Tumen, the course reaches 521 km, which is the only major river flowing into the Sea of Japan. Both serve to border with China on the largest part of their journey. Because of the topography, rivers are quite short and poorly adapted to the fluviale24 navigation. The climate is temperate continental, characterized by an annual range of 35 ° C in Pyongyang (the average temperature in January is - 8 ° C and that of July is 27 ° C) and hot summers and wet. The annual precipitation is 916 mm and 1400 mm Pyongyang to Wonsan on the east coast.
